Antipasto's By Derose is a standalone place towards the East Foothills on McKee Road, across the street from Lucky's. Private lot and street parking. Outside and inside seating available. The have a market section also to walk around and shop while waiting for your food. [Taken from their website] "Our hot food department features traditional Italian dishes including lasagna, pasta & meatballs, and home-made raviolis. We also feature specials including eggplant parmesan, prime rib, baked fish, BBQ ribs, and steaks grilled to order." I went with the beef ravioli. It was good, meaty, with traditional marinara sauce. The service was cordial and nice. I'll be back. Support your local business. Check them out!
This review is for the butcher. We bought some rib eye steak for a special family dinner. Although they were not prime, they tasted like prime without the price tag. We will continue to go to this small family owned business. They really care about their customers and sell quality meats.
Antipasto's by De Rose Gourmet has been a family owned stellar main stay for the East Side San Jose community for as long as I can remember. My friends and I use to go here for drinks and lunch back in the day after a long bike ride or an all day hike. We happen to be in the area on a Saturday afternoon and so I brought the family to check it out. Parking can be a challenge on a hectic day but we eventually were able to find a spot. Still busy as usual as there was a long line and most of the indoor tables were occupied. I did not realize that the separate room connected to the deli is an extra dining room with tables for customers of Antipasto's. We ordered chicken ravioli with tomato basil cream sauce, chicken ravioli with marina sauce, BBQ tri tip sandwich, and cheese tortellini with tomato basil cream sauce. Everything is delicious as always. The tomato basil cream sauce is so flavorful and goes well with the ravioli. The complementary bread and butter is always a nice touch. The mother who was the cashier was very sweet and nice. Overall our family enjoyed our experience at Antipasto's. I'm glad the fam got to see what this spot was all about.
A staple in the east side of San Jose neighborhood! These sandwiches are arguably the best in San Jose! The owner is legit and so nice! All the employees are very helpful! It can get very busy but everyone working there is kind and helpful! Great atmosphere and ambiance! Very clean and organized shop!
Cool mom & pop delicatessen. Lots of people there eating, picking up food to go. They serve large portions of food. I was not super hungry, so settled for coconut shrimp. 6 pieces for $7.99. Pretty good deal to me. The sweet chili dipping sauce was ok. I also got Pliney the Elder on tap. Not a lot of places have it. I'll be back to try the ravioli & sandwiches. They looked amazing! They also sell imported foods & desserts.
An assuming restaurant with limited parking during peak hours serving bomb food that warms your soul. I've only tried their hot foods, but I heard their deli is great too. Their hot foods have such a variety and there's really something for everyone! From ravioli, meatball subs, ribs, and even a whole steak. Whether you're here for the deli or the hot foods, there's a separate line for each. The way it works is that you order at the specific counter, pay, and wait for your food. If the line is long, you can enjoy a beer while waiting and pay when you're up front. My personal favorites are the chicken ravioli with tomato basil cream (TBC) and the meatball sub. When ordering the ravioli to go, you have 2 options - a quart and a box. A quart comes in your average take out container, but a box comes in a larger aluminum tray pan. The ravioli itself is soft, pillowy, and melt in your mouth. If not eaten fresh, they get stuck together as it cools. They don't look great, but they still taste great! You can eat at the deli, but I generally get it to go.
I have been wanting to try their raviolis for a long time. We stopped in here on a Wednesday around 2pm and it was not busy at all. I ordered a mortadella sandwich and raviolis with the tomato basil cream sauce. Everything was fresh and the ingredients used were of quality. Price was also very reasonable for what I got. I totally can't wait to come back and get more sandwiches and raviolis.
* New York style deli * Family owned and ran business and they live in the neighborhood * Premium meat counter, take away and many food options * Beers on tap or bottle as well as wines and bottled specialty sodas * Large portions * Small sidewalk patio and some seating inside * Parking can be a challenge when busy * Not open for dinner or Sundays * I usually do lunch and go early like before 11 to get a parking space I have been going to this place ever since I moved to San Jose in the 90's. The food tastes home made and they have a meat counter, a deli counter and a hot food counter. They have several reach in coolers with craft beers, craft sodas and wines. My favorite is the Lasagna dinner that comes with two meat balls and a salad. My coworker today had the linguini alfredo with chicken. Both are enough groceries for two people each. Other favorites are the "TBC" (Tomato, Basil and Cheese) raviolis, and meatball sandwich. The food is great, the place is clean and old school feel, the staff are all owners or long term employees and you feel like family. Today there were tons of locals and I overheard many conversations about knowing he family, coming here every week, etc.
Ordered the Tomato Basil Cheese raviolis, one with chicken and another with cheese... They were so good! I came during lunch hour on a weekday, and it was actually popping! I didn't realize many people were in the area because it's in an area closer to the foothills. Definitely gives a homey feeling when you walk in. Just note that parking lot is very limited. If it's packed, it's hard to find parking elsewhere. I would definitely come back for more!
